Special Club Programs

The Brockville Country Club has a number of Special Programs; some aimed at sports activities, some at new members to the Club and others at making the golf course the most friendly it can be to members, guests and the environment. Such Programs are covered below:

Junior Golf Program - Ladies Nights - Audubon Program

JUNIOR GOLF PROGRAM:

The Brockville Country Club runs a very instructive and entertaining Junior Program each summer for member and community golfing juniors. The Junior program is being run by Jonathan O'Reilly and Kent Swirsky with assistance of our golf pro Derek MacDoanld along with a number of volunteers. Note: All volunteers at the BCC sign a "Volunteer Code of Ethics". If you have any concern at all, you can review this Code of Ethics at the BCC Office.
During July and August, starting at 8:00 AM sharp, each Monday morning (or Tuesday if Monday has a tournament or holiday), the Juniors will receive guidance, golf instructions, golf etiquette, golf management and then play different formats on the golf course. A Junior Golf Tournament is held at the BCC each year in August as a wrap up event and is followed by a BBQ in the golf lounge.

Did you know that non-member Juniors are welcome to attend? That's Right! They just need to know a member who will sponsor them. The member takes responsibility for the junior while at the Club. This is a great way to introduce your Junior to the Wonderful World of Golf through the BCC Junior Program. The fee is very reasonable. Check the Club Office for details by telephoning 613-342-2468. And check this link: BCC 2010 Junior Program for full details when available.

LADIES WEDNESDAY TWILIGHT:
The Brockville Country Club Ladies Wednesday twilight league presents a great opportunity for non-member ladies to golf the Country Club. Each Wednesday evening, from about 4:00 pm to about 5:30 pm some 40 to 50 ladies tee off for their 9 hole play. It is a very social group of women with varying skill levels. Seasoned golfers turn out as well as new golfers – all are welcome. Usually some sort of game is played each evening to make things interesting. After golf, the ladies head into the club house for dinner and drinks.

Now here is the interesting part. The Ladies Twilight League run a “promo program”. It is an introductory program that allows women who are unsure about joining the Club the opportunity to golf the course and meet some of the members. They are only allowed to play Wednesday twilight, and of course join in the dinner and festivities, but it represents a great way to get acquainted
with the Country Club and many of our lady members. A very inexpensive 12 round 9 hole package is available. Check the office for details.

WELL DONE LADIES – GREAT WAY TO ATTRACT LADY GOLFERS

AUDUBON:  The Audubon Society was formed as an association to preserve wildlife and promote environmentally responsible management of the countryside as a whole, thereby enhancing and preserving the wild life community. One of its initiatives is to partner with golf courses across North America in order to preserve their courses as valuable green spaces, while reducing potential environmental impacts associated with golf course operations.

Over the past 10 years they have developed, in conjunction with golf courses in North America, a set of standards that will meet these goals. Many major courses in North America are members and benefiting from these first class standards and management practices. The Brockville Country Club is a member of Audubon International with an in-house committee overseeing program implementation. One of our tasks is to establish and maintain an inventory of wildlife that inhabit or traverse our golf course. This might mean noting on a chart in the locker room, that deer you saw crossing #17 tee, or the 14 wild turkeys on #5 fairway, or the hawk that flew across #7 green.

And did you know that Lawrence, our Superintendent keeps track of pests and weed populations? He treats the issue when it has reached a predetermined level and then only as a spot treatment, if possible. This practice ensures that our course is maintained in pristine condition, minimizes or negates adverse effects on the environment and reduces cost of control. Aeration is another plant friendly practice employed at our Club. It enhances root zone life which helps plants withstand weather and golfer traffic stress, while ensuring beautiful green and smooth playing surfaces on fairways and greens throughout the season and with minimal watering.
