|
The
ice is
going in – September 9, 2003 – getting ready
for the Shorty Jenkins Classic 2003.
|
 |
Are we really going to use pink
paint to paint the
rings in the houses? |
 |
Yes, we’re painting
the 12-foot rings
pink; after all, what is Shorty Jenkins’ favourite colour? |
 |
And the 4-foot ring is gray.
Pink and gray do go
very well together. But can we stand those colours for an entire
season?? |
 |
Co-convener Keith and icemaker
Brian discuss what
should be done next.... |
|
September
10,
2003 – Just how do they get those lines so nice and straight?
|
 |
Volunteers Charlie and Ginger
hold the coloured
string tight while it is being frozen into the ice. Hard work, eh, guys? |
 |
Doesn’t this begin to
look great?
Especially with Shorty’s Stetson hat on the button.... |
 |
Assistant Icemaker Jonathon and
volunteer John
remove footprints before the next spray of water. To the left is a
close-up of a footprint. Who made that mess, Brian? .......Brian ? ! |
 |
Icemaker Brian sprays a thin
layer of water to seal
in all of the work done over the last few days. But there’s
still lots more to be done..... |
 |
Two years ago the rocks had new
inserts and today
the rocks return from being sharpened. They must be in really good
shape now!!! |
|
September
11,
2003 – Getting close...
|
 |
The sponsors’ logos
are inserted. |
 |
Icemaker Brian floods the ice
yet again. I wonder
just how many floodings are required to prepare the ice..... Later,
Shorty told me it would take about 12-14 floodings. |
 |
Shorty Jenkins has dropped in
several times as the
ice goes in. Today he is putting in many hours working on the blade for
the ice scraper. |

18,

Shorty Jenkins..... |
 |
...and his car. I guess
Mercedes doesn’t
sell their pink cars! Shorty will have to get it painted!!! |

September
19,
2003 – The ’spiel continues....
|
 |
Organizers had a few of these
pink foam hats made
up. I heard somebody actually wanted to buy one! |
 |
The real thing! |
|
September
20,
2003 – Last day of round-robin....
|
 |
Cris Campbell (right) presents
a raffle prize - a
print of one of her mother’s paintings - to the lucky winner,
Karen Clark. |
 |
It’s almost
midnight.... Ed
“The Wrench” squeaked into the quarter finals....
Is Marilyn relieving stressed muscles, or is Marilyn giving Ed payback
for things past? |
| The 2003
