Curling Season Update
Date: October 9, 2020
On October 7, the BCC Curling Council met to discuss options for the curling season. As you are all aware, our team of volunteers and staff have been promoting curling at the BCC to gain momentum and commitments from our membership to ensure the season would be viable. After much discussion and evaluation, it is clear the membership is concerned and uncertain about curling in the current COVID 19 environment. Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, we were unable to achieve the established minimum number of members required to proceed with the season.
Having received a commitment from less than 50% of the required membership established as a goal, and the current uncertainty of the second wave of COVID 19, the Curling Council has recommended to the Board that the 2020-2021 curling season be postponed until January 1, 2021. On October 8, The Board of Directors reviewed this recommendation and have passed a motion to accept this recommendation to defer the start of the season.
In the upcoming months, the BCC Curling Council will monitor the local health protocols and how other curling clubs are managing and will consider the option of a shortened season starting in January 2021 if permitted by the local health authorities and there is committed interest by the membership.
This recommendation and decision have been made with the care and wellbeing of our membership and staff in mind. This decision will require the Board of Directors and Management Team to evaluate operating costs over the winter months and consider other programming options for our membership such as outdoor winter activities. The creation of this operating plan is already underway.
We thank the membership in advance for your continued support and understanding as we collectively navigate these challenging times. We have all contributed to the success that is the Brockville Country Club and we look forward to working together to continue this success when it is safe to play again.
We wish all of you a healthy and happy Thanksgiving.
On Behalf of The Board of Directors,
Mike Paquette
Vice President
